tool # 11

My favorite tool is Prezi and the kids like it too. I have seen several products with this program already this read.My vision for this new technology is to stay fast and stead. I will try to go slow and ask my "tech" kids for help if needed. I am glad I finished this activity and feel like I have accomplished a lot. I am now in the twenty first century!

Tool # 10

Just like teaching babies, toddlers, preschoolers and elementary kids values, teaching digital citizenship is important to children using the internet for researching and blogging. Teach copyright, fair use and have websites available  like Cyber Smart and I Safe to demonstrate safety and healthy practices. It is important to teach students the good and the bad ways! Also, parents definitely need to be informed at meeting and information about their kids using technology at home. Children to not need to be harrassed or bullied in any way at any time. Children need to feel safe,  feel secure, demonstrate responsibility and have proper etiquette using technology.

Tool # 9

The teacher needs to use technology with the objective by matching the activity with the objective of the class lesson.
The teacher can offer choices and also allow the students to take responsibility and make choices. Find your tech savvy kids to the teacher's advantage. Always begin with a rubric for guidance. The .teacher can create an open/ended sentence activity  so that the student can write a brief reflection about it. Two apps I could use in the classroom are: Words with Friends (Love it, using is now with 2 students), Price of Freedom (1775-1783) and Post Card Creator (Thinkfinity) and 8th Grade Social Studies TAKS Jeopardy Review. Sounds like fun!

Tool # 8

From watching the videos on these products, I learned how to download apps, how to operate the netbooks,  and  how to operate and set up the iPad. I also learned that a system must be in place for the students to check out the devices. Maybe, a sign out sheet or designate a number for each student/pair of students to use each time  the device is used. Safety and care is important to me. Also, since some of the students will be more experienced than some, they could be "experts" whenever they can help a student with learning and applying the operations. .So, it is exciting but also scary too. I am confident that with practice, these devices will be awesome in the classroom for teaching our kids!

Tool # 7

1. Using Todays Meet with another class in the school.
2. The objective would be to discuss a novel currently being read by both classroom using academic language. Students would be given a set of sentence stems to use to discuss the book using TodaysMeet. After they have posted their comments, they could read the other student's comments and make respond to them. This could be implemented when we read Nothing But the Truth in the 5th six weeks.

Tool # 6 Using Web Tool

I created my "Loving History group on Diigo. I bookmarked a page of the Wikipedia site for the U.S. Constitution  for viewers to read and be able to discuss this document "In framing a system which we wish to last for ages, we should not lose sight of the changes which ages will produce." James Madison The Constitution still thrives in part because it echos the principles the original delegates   greatly valued.
Skype will be used as another tool because students can view other teachers/students teaching a lesson or demonstrating an event. This is cool.

Tool # 5

Using wordle to create important words of the American Revolution was exciting and colorful.. Creating the election debate in animate was also fun. The students will really like that program in creating their historical characters.

Tool # 4 "M to oving up to the clouds

LA/SS will use google docs especially for notes and for editing student's essays. Roger and I can use form tools for making corrections This is another form of communication between the student/teacher. We can easily make comments on the student's paper almost at the same time.. I am still concerned about the steps!.

Tool # 3 video embed - Paul Revere

Tool # 3

Found a powerful video on the American Revolution with amazing political cartoon, engravings, published articles, painting. Background music impacted pictures of the American Revolution. Good overview for American Revolution unit.

On copyright laws video I learned the 4 user rights to keep in mind  are: nature, purpose, effect and amount. Does the person cite correctly for his purpose?

Overwhelmed or excited

I have been diligently reading and experimenting with these new blogging concepts for 2 1'2 hours and I feel overwhelmed a little. However, I know I must accept and achieve this "new method" for the students. I understand the importance of technology and I remember the first computers too for "writing essays and reports" only. Now the world is connected through social networking and websites and I can see the person with whom I am talking. The endless possibilities of interaction between friends, colleagues  and students. Imagine that!
